On march 29th of 1980 in the museum of York County located in Rock Hill, SC. the South Carolina Association of Taxidermist better known as SCAT was formed. With an attendance of 40 taxidermist present at the meeting it was agreed upon that the presence of an association was needed for the state. Set up as a non profit association SCAT'S sole purpose is to educate the taxidermist and preserve the art of taxidermy for future generations. SCAT has aided in the education and advancement of taxidermist across the country. Held annually SCAT host its convention to bring taxidermist together for a chance to learn from some of the most decorated taxidermist across the globe. SCAT continues to help taxidermist grow in the art. SCAT members have gone on to win numerous awards in the taxidermy field and have been pioneers of a lot of modern taxidermy techniques used today.
